Networking events and activities for young researchers in the fields of thermal science and engineering

The Young Researchers Meeting (YRM) is an event devoted to the casual interchange of research and ideas in thermal science and engineering, and aims to expand the international networks of young researchers who have gathered from all over the world to participate in IHTC-16. This meeting is primarily for research staff, postdocs, and PhD students younger than approximately 40. It is planned for 50 persons. For this international group of colleagues, we have planned an excursion to the Summer Palace & Tsinghua University campus, stimulating networking activities, and a dinner party at the Meeting Room on M floor, Mengminwei Science & Technology Building, Tsinghua University.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Participation is open to industry and university researchers, postdocs, and PhD students under the ages of approximately 40.
  • Young professionals who are interested in building relationships with people of the same generation, getting more involved in the international heat transfer community, and growing their professional network in the world.

VISIT to the Summer Palace is planned for the YRM. The Summer Palace was first constructed in 1750, started to rebuild it in 1886, and repaired in 1902. The Summer Palace landscape, dominated mainly by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, covers an area of 3.08 square kilometers, three quarters of which is under water. Its 70,000 square meters of building space features a variety of palaces, gardens and other ancient-style architectural structures. Well known for its large and priceless collection of cultural relics, it was among the first group of historical and cultural heritage sites in China to be placed under special state protection.

Visit to Tsinghua University Campus is also planned, which is located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing. The campus is on the site of “Qing Hua Yuan (Tsinghua Garden)” —a former royal garden of the Qing Dynasty. Tsinghua University Campus was named one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world by a panel of architects and campus designers in Forbes in 2010, which was the only university in Asia on the list. Inside the Campus, Jin Chun Garden's scenery is wonderful, especially in the season of lotus blooms. It used to be Emperor Kangxi's temporary imperial palace. The center of Jin Chun Garden is the original site of "He Tang Yue Se" described by Zhu Ziqing, which is included in the Chinese Textbook of Middle School.

It is located on the former site of Qing Dynasty royal gardens and retains Chinese-style landscaping as well as traditional buildings, but many of its buildings are also in the Western-style, reflecting the American influence in its history. Along with its rival and neighbor the Peking University, it is known throughout China and the wider world for having one of the most beautiful campuses.

The dinner party will be held at the Meeting Room on M floor, Mengminwei Science & Technology Building, inside of the Tsinghua University Campus. Let us all enjoy the moment talking and discussing our research works, the future and issues of the fields of thermal science and engineering, exchanging knowledge not only for scientific stuffs but also culture and academia ones. Let us create a new network, first small but that which connects to further meetings in other conferences, visiting others, and building friendship.
